Community Investment

Atlantic Development firmly believes that a successful development should result in the long-term betterment of the host community.  Thus, it has been the practice of Atlantic Development to contribute to the community life in each community where it develops.  In the course of its business, Atlantic Development has worked to leverage its developments to benefit many local organizations.

Examples include Habitat for Humanity in Quincy, MA, which received a large gift of land as part of the Granite Crossing development. On Nantucket, MA, Atlantic Development worked to ensure that the Boys & Girls Club received land to increase the size of its football field.

Throughout his career, D.J. MacKinnon has personally used his time, resources and expertise for the betterment of numerous local organizations and communities.

For the past decade, while serving on the Board of Trustees, D.J. has been a leading force behind the vast building and field improvements at Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA. In addition,  as a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the South Shore YMCA, he has been instrumental in helping them to improve their facilities, programs and fundraising.

“We are most grateful to Atlantic Development for their very generous gift. Thanks to their compassion and concern, the dream of home ownership has become a reality for nine deserving families.”

Julie McKinnon, President, South Shore Habitat for Humanity

“You served as a trustee of Thayer Academy for ten years — 2002-2012 — including three years as Chairman. Your commitment to this Academy has been extraordinary. Particularly as a member and the chair of the Chair of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, you guided Thayer through one project after another. Starting with the renovation of the Main Building, the construction of the Fish Center for Physical Fitness, the addition of the Glover Science Building, the construction of the turf fields, the renovation of the Southworth Library, and the construction of the Academy’s first rowing facility, you upgraded our campus. Always calm and positive, your exceptional attention to detail will have a lasting effect on the Academy for many years to come.”
